And we have a winner!

Okay, this is a bit lame as we only had 1 single contest entry, but I'll be fair - congratulations edina!
Please email me at peachyknits at gmail dot com so I can send you your prize!

On other news, I'm contemplating closing this KAL and blog - I personally don't have the time at the moment, and with so many great KALs underway I really understand that people rather participate elsewhere. If you want the blog to stay open, please leave a comment or email me! :)
You've been a great team, but good things should end when they are still fun!

Contest - A Reminder!

Just wanted to drop you a note that we still have our contest going on!

because of the general Holiday Craze I think it's best to push the posting limit for your sock pictures to January 6 to get all those last minute socks of the year added up, too. So keep 'em coming, gals! :)

Pictureless Socks

This past "season" I learned to knit socks. Since the middle of August I've knit one pair (Simply Splendid Socks by Lucy Newby in stockinette stitch)and two singles -one Simply Splendid in K2P2 Ribbing, the other a Maizy Ruffled Sock. There are two other socks on needles (the first of another pair of Maizys and Ripples from Sockamania). Guess I became compulsive about sock knitting, but they will make great Christmas gifts as long as I do not slow my pace or become victim of the second sock syndrome.

Officially in November I've started one sock for the season. My next challenge - learn how to post pictures.

another newbie

Hi, I just joined this blog, too. I recently finished knitting my very first pair of socks:The pattern is from MagKnits; here's the link. The yarn was gifted to me from a friend and I'm not sure it even exists anymore but it's called Stahl Wolle Socka Cotton. I enjoyed knitting these socks and like the finished product. I'm working on my second pair of socks and they are not going as well (you can read more about that on my blog).

Thanks for having me and Happy Knitting!

an intro

hello all, i've just joined the KAL, so i figure i should introduce myself. im Bella, long time knitter, but very recent knitting blogger. sadly, my camera is kaput, so there will be no sock pictures just yet.

currently working on - very basic pair of "non yarn-snob" socks. i guess that needs an explaination, doesnt it? im currently a tad broke, and also moving soon, so between my stash being packed up in boxes and my wallet not allowing me to splurge on the sock yarn i want, i am beginning an experiment in making socks with (gasp!) acrylic yarn (namely Bernat Satin Sport). to get a feel for what TLC's limitations in sock knitting are, the first pair will be terribly basic. pictures to follow soon!

Clarifications on The Contest

I really didn't think that people from outside the blog would read this, so here's the whole deal.

This is my own personal effort to say thank you to the great people belonging to this Knit-Along. So, to participate you have to belong to this KAL (but you can join up anytime - see the info in the sidebar!), and to qualify the picture of the socks should be posted in this blog. So take a look around if this struck your fancy, email me to get an invite, and join the fun! :)
To know more about the KAL, please read this post.

A contest!

Well, not precisely - but being the worst hostess ever for sure, I feel like I should do a bit more around here - so, here's what I had in mind:

During the current season (October 1st - December 31st) everyone who knits socks and posts a picture of them gets the chance to win some sock yarn! I have some lovely skeins from the Opal Hundertwasser collection to offer!

So, being the season of Christmas knitting, I know that some of you might knit fewer socks that normal, while others go into overdrive - so I think it will be most fair that everyone who participates gets 1 chance at the yarn. On January 1st I will write down all user names and the winner will be drawn - I thought about 1 skein per 10 entries (so if 16 people contribute two winners, for 24 three winners, and so on).

Metropolis Socks

OK, only one of these socks counts for Summer. It took me Spring into Summer to do the first sock and Summer to do the second sock.

The pattern is from Wildhorse Farm Designs and I bought it from at The Loopy Ewe.
The yarn is a custom dye request from Doodlebirds Creations. Beth named it capes and tights.

Summer socks

Here is my second pair and given the timing in the month, probably will be my last entry for Summer so 4 sock this time around.

Summer's still here...

Due to my camera problems I haven't been able to post anything for a while.
So: here are all of my socks for the summer. It's raining outside and the temperature is about 7 Celcius, so it's more like autumn already...

1st pair:

Plain vanilla sock for my dear friend, who gave me some clothes and I promised to knit her and her son a couple of socks :). Great way to get some new stuff! I love the golden colors in these socks, and I named them Golden Tiger -socks.

Number 2:

Worsted weight and quite bulky. These should keep the toes of the 3 year old warm even when it's really cold! I wanted to do something special, so these are Mirror Image-socks.

Pair 3:

Meet my 80's Retro-disco socks! Neon colors in black background.

Number 4:

Opal Flamingo socks for my own three year old. Cuff is basic 2k2p ribbing which continues on top of the foot. These are much loved.

Last but not least: pair 5 (because three quarters of my summer socks are so tiny)

Anastasia-socks from Pepperknits.

This was my first encounter with Koigu, and I loved it! I made a couple of errors which you can see, but because I'm a lazy knitter with high tolerance, I didn't frog. So sue me :)! The pattern was great.

First pair for Summer

Here is my first pair for summer (running a bit behind this season so hopefully will make it to at least the 4 socks).

The pattern is stockinette following the rest of the instructions for the 4 rib pattern in the Sensational Knitted Socks book.

Another Pair

These are the Double Eyelet Rib, a free pattern by Wendy Johnson. The only change I made was putting on a picot bind off instead of the normal ribbing.

Happy June!

Hello Sock Knitters!

We're down to the last month of "Spring." I thought I'd conduct an informal survey and see how everyone's doing on their 4. Please comment below how you're doing, and let us know if you're looking for inspiration to complete Spring goals.

I'm in need of some summer inspiration myself. If you've found some great yarns, patterns (or the two combined), let us know.

Finally!

My camera died just as I joined this KAL... typical!

So no photos of my beautiful Lilac Socks :(.

Luckily my husband has a camera in his mobile, so here are at least some pictures.

These were for my dear Granny, for her birthday!

Thuja-socks from Knitty and...

... and the pattern for these is here. (Sorry, only in Finnish). I love the "jaywalkerish" feeling of these socks, but still there are differences. For example the yarn-overs create a nice lacy-like look in these socks.
So three pairs so far!

4th pair for Spring

Finished my fourth pair of socks for Spring. The yarn is Orange You Glad colorway from Doodlebirds Creations . The pattern is Michele Wymans's Twinkle Toes Socks for kids and adults from Effectiveness by design .

Sock update

The basic black ribbed cashsoft socks for DH are done. The thing that made them semi interesting is that they were done with a widdershins type heel - toe up and with heel flap that is in exactly the same place as it would be if done toe down. The pink ones (meant to be worn with the lacy cuff down) are from Favorite Socks.

I'm open to suggestions for summer sock patterns/yarns. In the meantime, I'll be knitting up some baby gifts and dreaming about lace knitting.
